Gene Redford joined the Lions in November of 1974 as a charter member of the Tulsa McCullough Lions Club and is one of two remaining charter members. The club was sponsored by the Tulsa Downtown Lions, where PIP Dr. Bob McCullough was a member. We wanted to honor Dr. Bob for all of his work as a Lion. In 2010 the Tulsa McCullough Lions and Tulsa Metro Lions merged their two clubs, which became Tulsa Metro-McCullough Lions.
Gene started through the chairs in the Tulsa McCullough Lions club in 1977 as 3rd VP worked up to president. Since then he has served several times as president, secretary, treasurer and board member. Gene also served two terms as a 3-M board member on the OLSF in the late 70’s. Gene received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1992. Gene served again from 3-O as president of OLSF in 2011 and on his second 3-year term with OLSF. He served several terms as a Zone chairperson. He was 3-O District Governor in 2009-10 and Vice Council Chairperson in 2010-2011.
Gene started his career in the Heating/Air Conditioning Industry in 1962 as a design engineering draftsman with an consulting engineering firm and moved into contracting in 1973. Gene is a licensed Mechanical Contractor and retired from Natkin Service as District Manager in 2005. He went back to work for in 2007 with another mechanical contractor until 2016. Gene is a life member of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers) and served as president of his chapter in 1998 where he received the Golden Gavel award for top chapter president of this region which included 13 chapters in TX, AR, LA and OK. He has served as his chapter historian for over 7 years.
Gene and his wife Ellen have been married for 52 years. They had two daughters and one grandson. Gene and Ellen raised their grandson from 5 years old. Their youngest daughter who was the mother of their grandson passed away in 2011.
